Day 1

After a frantic morning, we finally left around noon and headed to our first stop- Long Lake Recreation Area for our annual church camp out. It's only about an hour away so this is a good test run for us. We had a few hiccups. It started when we hooked up the water for the first time- water started pouring out of the side panel for the water heater. We quickly found the cap was off of a release valve in the panel. After putting that on and turning the water back on, water started pouring out of the outdoor shower head. The connection on the shower head hose was loose and the valve to turn the shower on was open. Fixed those. We tried a third time. No water leaking! After a little while, we decided to test out putting water in the holding tank. After hooking the hose up to the water tank, water started dripping out of the bottom of the trailer. Turns out, both of the low point drains under the trailer were open. I think we finally have the water situation under control.

We also overloaded the generator twice. Which really just means that everything in the trailer turned off and we had to restart the generator. Apparently you can't run the AC, the TV, the water pump and the water heater all at the same time. Duly noted.

On top of these technical difficulties, it's always insanely hard to do anything with a two year old. He's either trying to run into the street or opening all the drawers and cabinets or taking everything out of bins and boxes. We tried to distract him by putting a movie on (hence the overloaded generator). But he wasn't fooled. What could have taken 2 hours took 4. But in the end, we finished emptying the house, packed everything away in the trailer and said goodbye. After a quick stop at Oscars (Jared and I deserved a milkshake), we were on our way.

Saying goodbye

Without further incident, we made it to our first stop.

Our set up

We are getting the fire ready to grill steaks for dinner. I'd say it's been a pretty good start to the trip.
