Saturday morning found us down at the beach again. We found many creatures washed up on the shore including hermit crabs and whole clams. We helped Avery make a tide pool habitat to house all the creatures he found and he enjoyed telling random beach goers all about it. We could have stayed there all day, but we had other plans to attend to.
We had lunch plans with a coworker Jared met over the summer at an event in Milwaukee who insisted that we contact her if we ever made it out to Maine. So we did! Jane and her family were amazing hosts and from what we've heard, their hospitality is a common trait amongst Mainers. We had planned to eat at Portland Lobster Company right on the harbor but due to Hurricane Florence, three cruise ships had been diverted to Portland and all the passengers had recently disembarked, flooding the seaside with tourists. So we opted for a quicker option at B. Good (which had amazing food) a little further away from the port. We then hopped on the ferry to Little Diamond Island where Jane's family has a summer home. This island has no cars or roads and is only open to inhabitants for part of the year (utilities are cut off in the winter). This is one of those places where everyone knows everyone else. The community was friendly and welcoming. It was peaceful and beautiful and amazing and I wish we could spend all summer there.

When we returned to Portland, we were having such a great time that we decided to go out to dinner. We were able to get a table at Portland Lobster Company fairly quickly and enjoyed lobster roll, fried clams and clam chowder.
I'm realizing as I'm writing this post that there really wasn't that much to write about today but it was probably our favorite day (at least mine) on our entire trip. Everything about the day was so wonderful and we made some great new friends. We wished we could have stayed in Portland much longer as well as Old Orchard Beach. Both cities are on our list of places to return to, and who knows, maybe a longer beach vacation is somewhere in our near future. As well as a summer beach house :P
